This error can occur to any brand of external hard drive, including Seagate, Toshiba, Western Digital, Hitachi, Samsung, etc. The consequence of external hard disk detected but not showing in my computer is that you lost all data in the drive. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. The volume does not contain a recognized file system. The error message might be one of the followings. But when you attempt to open it as usual to read or write data on the drive, you cannot access it, and an error message blocks you out. You connect your external hard drive to computer, and it shows up in File Explorer.

I am not sure about the Seagate Backup Plus 2.5" or Seagate Expansion 2.5" portables.
MOST RELIABLE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES 2018 PORTABLE
The 3.5" portable HDD's by WD are apparently not.įrom what I found out the 2.5" WD Passports and the 2.5" ADATA portables, the drives are soldered into the enclosure. Then I was informed that the 2.5" Passport drive is physically soldered into the enclosure, which from my understanding what people are saying if it fails and you need the stuff off it, its either a PITA to recover because you need to de-solder the drive, which could cause even more damage to the HDD itself or cost you more if you take it somewhere. or I was, because I was going to get the 2TB 2.5" WD Passport from Costco a week or 2 ago when it was 89.99. Specifically we were talking about 2.5" portable HDD's. It's hard to say, you have to look it up. Is this the same for other brands? Are other external/portable drives recoverable somehow even if they fail? I'm wondering if I should stick with WD, or go with Seagate.
I see people saying that WD external drives aren't recoverable in any way once they fail. Are they any good or reliable or are they complete rubbish?ĪDATA DashDrive Durable HD650 2TB 2.5" USB 3.1 External Hard Drive Shock-resistant? No one answered me about the ADATA's that CC is selling. That's just complete B/S, and I was just going to buy the WD one from Costco. So the only option left is either going with the Seagate like LEAD said, or buying my own 2.5" HDD and just dropping it into an enclosure, yea it will probably cost $30 more or so, give or take, but I don't want the ish soldered down.
I don't want them exposed like that in the open. I don't want to use that cable or a dock because the drives are exposed. I was hoping there was some type of enclosure that would use 2xUSB 3.0 ports to give enough juice to power a 3.5" external, but to no avail. Yes, purposes being was that I needed to avoid the 3.5" because of the need for external power.
WD Blacks are good but expensive.ĭid you want to avoid using an external power adapter? If so then 2.5" drives are your only bet. Toshiba drives, some of them, are mediocre performers but higher reliability. If you buy your own enclosure ($15-40) now you got way more options for buying a drive. I would say avoid WD because of their USB interface soldered on.
